NBN Co has appointed Ralph Steffens as its first chief operating officer (COO).
He will be responsible for the construction of the National Broadband Network (NBN) along with deployment planning, network operations and IT.
Steffens hails from the UK and was previously the managing director of service delivery at London-based telco, BT Group.
He also oversaw the upgrade of the broadband infrastructure in Britain.
His role is based in Sydney and he will report to NBN Co CEO, Mike Quigley.
“As an experienced telecommunications executive who has presided over major network rollouts across Europe, [Steffens] is ideally suited to the role of overseeing this vital upgrade of Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure,” Quigley said in a statement.
