Internet job ads fall 4.2 per cent in October

Job advertisements on the internet fell by 4.2 per cent in October compared to a month earlier, national data shows.
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations internet vacancy index was 82.7 points, 8.3 per cent lower in seasonally-adjusted terms than in October 2010.
The department has discontinued its newspaper-based skilled vacancy index.
Internet-based skilled vacancies decreased in all eight occupational groups monitored by the department in October.
The largest category fall was recorded for machinery operators and drivers, which declined 7.5 per cent, followed by a 7.1 per cent drop in community and personal service workers.
During the month, advertisements declined in all states and territories, the largest being a 14.8 per cent drop in the Northern Territory, followed by a 11.5 per cent fall in South Australia.
Tasmania showed the biggest fall in internet ads over the year, tumbling 32.2 per cent, while at the other extreme, Western Australia posted a 4.8 per cent increase over the 12 months to October.
