Spotify App lands on Windows Phone 7

Spotify recently announced a new mobile application for Windows Phone 7 users, more than a year after the music streaming service first said it would bring its service to Microsoft's newest mobile OS. The new app, simply called Spotify and available now in the Windows Phone Marketplace, requires a Phone 7 device running version 7.5 (Mango) or higher and a premium Spotify account.
Similar to what you find on Spotify's other range of mobile apps, you can search, browse and play music, check out your friends' playlists, stream music over Wi-Fi or 3G, save playlists to your device for offline listening and mark songs as favorites.
With its new Windows Phone 7 addition, Spotify claims it has apps for more mobile devices than any other music service. But a quick check of Spotify's competitors suggests otherwise as most streaming services cover phones running the Android, iOS, Symbian, webOS or Windows Phone 7 platform. And many other services including Rhapsody, Pandora and Grooveshark offer apps for BlackBerry devices, while Spotify does not. However, Spotify is working on a BlackBerry app, which is available as a beta preview here.
Spotify's new app for Windows Phone 7 comes just in time as Microsoft recently announced the availability of four new phones running Mango on AT&T and T-Mobile USA. The new phones include Samsung's Focus Flash and a refreshed Focus S, and HTC's Titan and Radar 4G.
Microsoft's latest update to Windows Phone 7 features a variety of improvements including multitasking, voice commands, a revamped Web browser and Wi-Fi hotspot mode.
Spotify launched in the United States in July.
