The Federal Government has lauded its Telstra and Cisco HD TelePresence solution which was deployed 18 months ago.

Cisco supplied the TelePresence product while Telstra is the telco provider through its Next IP network. Both worked on the rollout of the system in 36 sites Australia-wide.

According to the Government, the solution has already delivered productivity, sustainability and substantial cost savings. Travel expenses have been cut by $12 million and contributed to reducing associated carbon emissions, according to the Government.

“Our combined network and project management skills means we have now delivered a proven solution to a national Government audience that is capable of supporting the Government as it strives to deliver ICT deployments that deliver genuine productivity, sustainability and cost savings,” Telstra executive director of data and IP, Philip Jones, said in a statement.

The Telepresence solution was deployed in 2009 and has been used for more than 1031 official meetings totalling more than 1660 hours.
