Social media is changing the recruitment advertising landscape, according to specialist recruitment and recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) company, MitchelLake.
According to MitchelLake managing director, Mike Page, social media is a significant and cost effective tool in a multi-channel recruitment strategy for companies on the hunt for staff.
“Today we are seeing a third wave of job advertising as employers move away from “traditional” online channels into social media. The talk of the town at the moment is how online job advertisements are declining but there is little discussion of how job advertising through social media is gathering pace,” Page said.
He pointed to a recent survey conducted by Jobvite, where 89 per cent of organisations said they will recruit through social media this year, while 95 per cent said they have already recruited using tools such as LinkedIn.
“With the increasing convergence of technology, media and marketing, there is more pressure than ever for companies to understand how to flourish using the best channels to market available to them,” he stated.
Page advised anyone using social media to build communities and talent pipelines as Web-based applications have changed the way the communication line flows between candidates and employers.
According to the company, the benefits of social media for job placement include enhancing job applications and providing additional insights for both employers and potential employees, and it offered a much more targeted approach to attracting a specific audience.
“Employers need to become social media savvy and learn how to attract, engage and even screen potential candidates through these channels,” Page added.

Great article Hafizah! I couldn't agree more that social media is becoming the next avenue of efficient recruiting. A majority of people exist in the social media world, thus recruiters should take advantage and tap into the large audience. When I read your statement, "there is more pressure than ever for companies to understand how to flourish using the best channels to market available to them", I instantly thought of http://employers.identified.com/ because it is a great resource for employers to get a better understanding on using social media and how to use it effectively in their recruiting strategies. It is evident that social media can truly be a benefit to employers!
