NBN Co has added 28 new locations to its NBN construction list for the next 12 months.

The company released its first 12-month construction outlook today which will be updated on a quarterly basis to include additional locations and is subject to change.

The outlook lists places where NBN construction has already begun or will start by September 2012.

Twenty-eight new locations have been added though some of the suburbs are just receiving a wider NBN deployment since some premises there are already NBN-ready.

These include:

  • NSW - Blacktown, Dapto, Gosford, Lidcombe, Long Jetty, Penrith, Richmond (more premises), Sawtell, Strathfield including the Homebush area and Wollongong
  • NT - Darwin (more premises)
  • Queensland - Nudgee
  • South Australia - Aldinga Beach, Port Augusta, Port Elliot, Stirling, Strathalbyn and Yankalilla
  • TAS - Launceston (more premises) and Somerset
  • VIC - Ballarat Central, Melbourne City, Melton and Tullamarine
  • WA - Applecross, Meadow Springs, Pinjarra and South Perth

“Today’s announcement represents the start of a major nationwide construction effort that should eventually see us offer NBN coverage to every one of Australia’s 13 million premises,” NBN Co CEO, Mike Quigley, said in a statement.

There are currently 60 locations on the list with the NBN expected to pass through 485,000 premises.

Rollout is already underway for 63,500 premises. Around 18,200 premises are NBN service ready. There are approximately 2500 active services on the NBN which includes satellite serviced and greenfield premises.

NBN Co is also feeding information to telcos and ISPs to help them with their investment and marketing plans for NBN services to areas on the construction list.

The information includes rollout and activation data for new housing developments.

“NBN Co is already building fibre infrastructure in over 90 new developments spread across 65 locations nationally and comprising almost 5000 premises,” NBN Co said in a statement.

The company approved hundreds of developer applications to build fibre in new estates in the last 12 months which amounts to over 67,000 premises.

NBN aims to provide fibre-based broadband services to 93 per cent of premises while 6 per cent will be serviced by wireless or satellite.
