Wholesale telco services provider, Vocus Communications (ASX:VOC) has sealed a multi-year international Internet access (IP transit) supply deal with Perth-based ‘4G’ wireless ISP, vividwireless.
The vividwireless network uses WiMAX and LTE hardware from Huawei though it currently uses the mobile WiMAX 802.16e standard. It is expected to switch on its nationwide TD-LTE network by the end of the year.
Whether the ISP runs a ‘true’ 4G network is still a debated topic.
Vocus will provide Internet access through fully redundant 10Gb interfaces at its Perth IX datacentre. vividwireless already has equipment in there.
The telco services provider was selected by vividwireless for its flexibility as it is able to ramp up capacity on request.
“...[I]t was clear its network operations and performance was excellent but the clincher was the willingness of the Vocus team to work with us to deliver a unique solution that would fit with our growing business,” vividwireless CEO, Martin Mercer, said in a statement.
Vocus was also keen to get in on the lucrative and growing mobile data market.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
vividwireless is a subsidiary of Seven Group Holdings.
