Opera Mini
Cost: Free | Developer: Opera Software ASA | Platform: | Version: 6.0.1 | 3.3MB |
If the name Opera in the browsing space sounds familiar, that might be because the browser has been making a name for itself in the PC space for a while.
If you feel that the Safari browser experience is not up to snuff on your iPhone, you now have the opportunity to try a competing browser for a different browsing experience.
Users who are on slower or crowded 3G networks can experience significant speed boosts in browsing with Opera, as the browser’s servers compress data by up to 90% before downloading.
In addition to added speed, compressing data also helps to reduce data charges.
Other great features of Opera include the Speed Dial screen, where users can add and easily access links to their favourite sites, as well as visual tabs that enable quick switching between open pages.
Pros: A fast browsing experience.
Cons: Pages are compressed and sometimes scaled back.
Verdict: If the inbuilt Safari browser is not meeting your needs, Opera Mini might be the speedy alternative.
