Chip vendor, AMD, has appointed Rory Read as its president and chief executive officer. Read has also been appointed to the company’s board of directors.
Read will be responsible for accelerating AMD’s evolution as a semiconductor design company. He will work closely with Seifert in progressing the company’s visions of margin expansion and growth and increasing the aperture of emerging opportunities.
Former interim chief executive officer, Thomas Seifert, will return to his role as senior vice-president and chief financial officer.
Bruce Claflin, who was named executive chairman of the board, returns to his role as AMD’s chairman of the board.
Read joins AMD from Lenovo Group, where he was president and chief operating officer for two years.
In this role, he was responsible for leading day-to-day global operations and supervising the development and implementation of the company’s growth strategy.
Prior to Lenovo, Read spent 23 years at IBM, where he held a broad range of management positions including managing partner of the business consulting services division, executive vice-president of global business transformation and general manager of business consulting services in Asia-Pacific.
“It’s not just financially, it’s also about the technical aspect. I think as the market evolves, there will be more change over the next six to 24 months. I think execution excellence, culture and strategy balance and is key in moving forward,” he stated.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
