iiNet subsidiary hit with local DDoS attack

The attack hit Westnet's based email servers and affected one-fifth of the ISP's customers

iiNet’s subsidiary, Westnet, has suffered a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on its email servers.

The attack began yesterday at 8am and ended 10.30am on the same day. It has been determined the DDoS attack was from within Australia.

Around one fifth of Westnet’s customers were unable to access or send emails during that time. The issue has now been completely resolved although iiNet is still trying to track the source of the DDoS attack.

Police was not involved in and it has not been deemed to be a malicious attack, according to an iiNet spokesperson.

No information was compromised during the attack.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
