In a bid to take advantage of social networking, Westfield has partnered with Facebook to offer consumers a range of special deals.
The partnership will make extensive use of Facebook Places to alert shoppers that ‘check in’ a range of special discounts. A release mentioned both Angus & Coote and Cotton On as trial partners.
Under the trial (for the week starting August 15), shoppers can check in at any Westfield centre to receive 30 per cent off all full-priced jewellery or clothing from the respective retailers.
In a release, Westfield general manager of marketing, John Batishtich, said “Retail, and particularly the way we can now target shoppers with special deals and discounts, has changed dramatically over the past decade. With tools such as Facebook Check In Deals, we’re now able to communicate to our shoppers in relevant and localised ways.”
Retailers have been struggling to compete with online shopping in recent times, especially since the value of the Australian dollar has hit parity with the US and therefore makes importing product often cheaper. Many retailers consider social networking an important part of their marketing strategy going forwards in terms of engaging with customers and fostering loyalty.
