PC vendor, Acer, has rolled out a new monitor that embraces 3D technology – the Acer HN274H.

The 4.6cm thick, full HD 3D 27-inch monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and is designed for gaming, movies, TV or photography.

Acer Computer Australia display product manager, Gaba Cheng, said, “For those looking to completely immerse themselves in 3D, the HN274H monitor is the first Mercury-free white LED-backlit monitor supporting both HDMI 3D and NVIDIA 3D Vision.” The monitor includes a set of active shutter glasses and has an integrated infra-red emitter. Utilising NVIDIA 3D glasses, the unit uses its internal power to switch between the left and right eye in sync with images on-screen in creating a 3D effect.

It features a two millisecond response rate for 3D gaming. The NVIDIA 3D Vision software allows PC users with access to over 400 titles that already support 3D.

The HN274H becomes a 3D cinema when connected to a 3D compatible Blu-ray player, a 3D Blu-ray PC or the Playstation 3 via HDMI or DVI-DL. Its three HDMI ports enable users to connect multiple devices and easily switch between them.

With a compatible 3D digital camera, users can take stereoscopic photographs that can be transferred to the HN274H via HDMI. Professionals can also upgrade to the NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro software that delivers high end imaging projects like 3D animation and visual effects, CAD, visualisation work and 3D video editing.

Users can hook up a set-top-box to the monitor for full HD 3D television programs from free-to-air and paid TV providers. Acer also encourages educators to adopt the 3D technology for engaging classes.

Its other features include: touch sensitive control buttons, a teardrop power key, a rounded silver-rimmed base and a vent pattern.

The HN274H is available from Acer distributors – Synnex Australia, Ingram Micro, Bluechip Infotech, XIT Australia, Compu Wholesale and all major retailers for $899.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
