Optus has slashed 180 jobs and 70 roles that had yet be filled have been cancelled.
The Australian reports the telco informed staff of the decision on Tuesday afternoon. The cuts represent 2.5 per cent of its national staff of 10,000 with NSW allegedly the state worst affected.
Redundancies are effective from August 12.
An Optus spokesperson told The Australian the jobs affected would "predominantly impact people at middle and senior management levels in sales, commercial, marketing and back-office functions across all business units, including wholly-owned subsidiaries".
The company said the redundancies followed a business review and moves to rationalise the management structure, consolidate some roles, reorganise teams and remove duplication.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
