The NSW Government has established a new ICT Governance framework as part of its plans to provide a whole-of-government approach towards ICT. As part of this, it has established a new ICT Board made up of director generals from key government agencies, which will be chaired by the director general of the Department of Finance and Services, Michael Cootes-Trotter, to lead the reform agenda.
The Board’s first task will be to develop the NSW Government ICT strategy. Responsibilities will also entail setting NSW ICT priorities, monitoring major NSW ICT government projects, and providing a level of visibility of agency compliance with agreed objectives and targets.
The Board will be supported by two groups including the ICT Advisory Panel, which will be made up of industry experts and ICT Leadership Group that will consist of a CIO and deputy director general to represent each of the nine cluster agencies. It will be tasked with translating the ICT strategy and implementation plan into outcomes across the government.
NSW Minister for Finance and Services, Greg Pearce, said the two groups will bring together both private sector and Government operational knowledge to decision making and ICT implementation.
"The new framework is the next step in making NSW the leader in ICT innovation and delivery,” NSW Minister for Finance and Services, Greg Pearce, said. “Industry also needs to be at the table providing insight into innovative solutions and emerging technologies.”
In June, the NSW Government expressed its commitment to the ICT strategy along with involvement from within the IT industry.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
