The winter chill of the Snowy Mountains swept over CeBIT on day one when Perisher CEO Peter Brulisauer presented a case study entitled Tech Blizzard hits the Australian slopes.
Successful implementation of RFID technology was the focus of an address in which Brulisauer outlined Perisher’s adoption of RFID for its ID ticketing system called MyRide and how it is beginning to transform the snow resort experience for both customers and staff.
To improve the Perisher experience for guests, RFID has been integrated in a MyRide card that not only has a digital ski lift pass, but also can be topped up with e-money to be used at the resort.
For added convenience, a MyRide user can easily buy additional ski lift passes and recharge the digital credit via the Perisher web site.
MyRide also comes with a handy dashboard that can be accessed with an iPhone, enabling the user to track the lifts they have ridden, tracks they have been on, snow reports, as well as many other useful services.
The MyRide technology was recently tested with a small focus group for a week and produced good results, as well as generated positive PR for Perisher in the process.
The full implementation of MyRide is expected to reduce labor costs and ticket fraud at Perisher, as well as provide better information to guests and further drive social interaction online.
