Network security vendor, WatchGuard Technologies, has released the latest enhancements to its extensible threat management (XTM) operating system.
The XTM operating system release enables administrators to control search capabilities and add further Application Control features in managing Web applications.
By setting the option of safe search filtering at the XTM firewall gateway, administrators override user preferences set in their Web browsers. This is ideal for ensuring users, especially children, do not view explicit content in their search results.
WatchGuard Safe Search works alongside leading search engines, such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Ask.com. The feature also imposes “safety mode” on YouTube to sort out and block offensive content or remarks. WatchGuard further enhances its Application Control functionality with the new XTM release, allowing administrators to supervise more than 1800 applications.
Notable additions include identification of Android and iPhone mobile phone browsers, popular social networking and web 2.0 applications globally, including Viadeo (France), Tuenti (Spain), Hyves (Netherlands) and Mixi.jp (Japan).
New user interface controls are integrated to simplify common tasks like applying application actions to multiple policies and setting policy by application category.
Rules by category are automatically updated to contain any new applications added. Policy, VPN and SNMP enhancements further supplement it.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
