Telstra launches 21Mbps mobile Wi-Fi modem

Telstra claims the Elite Mobile Wi-Fi is "Australia's fastest battery-powered 3G mobile Wi-Fi device"
Telstra has announced the launch of a new mobile Wi-Fi modem that is capable of theoretical maximum download speeds of 21 Megabits per second (Mbps).

Telstra claims the Elite Mobile Wi-Fi is "Australia's fastest battery-powered 3G mobile Wi-Fi device" and allows up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices to connect to it wirelessly for shared mobile Internet access.
The Telstra Elite Mobile Wi-Fi is a similar device to Telstra's current Pre-Paid Mobile Wi-Fi modem, with the exception of speed — the new Elite device is theoretically capable of 21Mbps download speeds rather than 7.2Mbps. The Telstra Elite Mobile Wi-Fi also has an OLED screen that shows information including signal strength, the number of devices connected and battery level.
"With the press of a button this mobile hotspot can connect up to five devices to the internet at speeds up to twice as fast as competitor 3G products in capitals and many regional areas," said Warwick Bray, executive director Telstra mobility products. "The Telstra Elite Mobile Wi-Fi should also prove popular with our business customers who increasingly use Wi-Fi enabled devices such as tablets and cameras and require mobile connectivity to support fast file transfers and to work flexibly while away from the office."
The Telstra Elite Mobile Wi-Fi will be available for pre-paid customers on Tuesday 12 April for $129, and includes an initial 5GB of data that can be used over 90 days. It is also available for Telstra business customers $29 per month with 1GB included data over 24 months.

I just purchased a Telstra Elite Mobile Wifi modem and while my two laptops connect easily to it my PC which is running Vista will not.
Keeps coming up with an error message..."Wireless authentication failed due to a timeout"
Can anyone help please as Im pulling my hair out trying to get it connected....:)

Jim, does your PC have a wireless network adapter? Apparently only wireless connections can be made to this device.

I also cannot connect with Vista, have another computer that will connect no problems.
Wi-Fi device does recognise as connects for a few seconds before dropping out, and laptop error states it timed out.
Any ideas?

Vista can only connect wirelessly via WEP security. Any higher level of security is not recognised as there is a known Vista bug. If the device can be configured for WEP security, I reckon it will work with VIsta.

Just purchased the Telstra Elite wifi...finally no more stupid usb hogging device i can now use my laptop properly :D woohoo!...ARRGG Jim buy a mac :) I hated vista with a passion, windows 8 is out soon and looks good too. more adaptable apparently? ha..Dab yep it comes with a sim, its already inside the device same as a mobile.

I just bought a new MacBook pro an tried to install my old telstra USB modem, apparently it's not compatible with the new MacBook Pro..? Telstra said the only option is to purchase a wifi modem? AppleCare however said the USB modem should work?
Anyone have a similar problem?

how do you reset all the settings to defult. I carnt get into the telstra mobile hotspot, i must of done something please help.

Anyone know how to turn off the powersave feature? Annoyingly it disconnects after 5 or 10 min and you have to wake it up to use it!

Are you sure it's 21Mbps?
I can see it support only 7.2Mbps or it's different model?

hey i have the same problem i bought a telstra wifi elite modem thingy and it will not connect with my compaq laptop, i went to the telstra shop three times yesturday trying to fix it thye could not find what was wrong it would connet to all the other computers and phone but just not mine. i have an appointment monday at the shop again seeing the technician so will update eveyone on whats going on. i'm pretty sure i'[ll have to get a new computer though. cheerio for now...

you can set the device for WEP security and can confirm this works with Vista. otherwise i got the timeout issue using WPA

For what is is worth, I run Vista on my Dell laptop and use an Ultimate battery powered wifi. Works a treat, no problem connecting with wife's Dell and iphone. Works fine other towns too.
I would comment on speed. When I got it speed was commonly around 5.5 Mps, touching high 6's sometimes. It has slowed down to high 2's now, ping around 105, full bar signal.

Telstras wifi modem has to have no encruption for windows vista use xp or windows 7 and it will connect from adam computer shop

ZTE AR6003 wants a Pin to connect to the Telstra Elite network. Assistance required as Telstra cannot help me get connected
