Former Synergy CEO joins Southern Cross

Perry Blackney joins Southern Cross Computer Systems as its new general manager of business solutions

Victoria-based IT services provider, Southern Cross Computer Systems (SCCS), has appointed Perry Blackney to the newly created role as general manager of business solutions.

Blackney was previously the CEO of Synergy Plus, but he quit his post in 2006 due to irreconcilable differences with the board. His resume also includes IBM, CA and Intel.

The new appointment will help enhance SCCS’ services business. Blackney’s responsibilities include developing and taking the company’s cloud offering to the market.

SCCS managing director, Mark Kalmus, said it was a significant appointment for the company.

“It continues on our path on investing in where we think the future is and concentrating on higher business value with our clients rather than the technology and infrastructure pieces,” Kalmus said.

“Cloud services is where we think we’ll see a return very quickly.”

Kalmus said it experienced a very solid quarter and was up 44 per cent on last year.

“Our numbers are looking good and we had a good January. We’re still seeing a bit of buoyancy in the market and we’re confident about our second half-year results matching our first half year results,” he said.

“We’re continuing to look at new areas where we can provide business value to our clients.”

I live in a Southern Cross TV broadcast area in SA where the company transmit 7,9 and 10.
What irks all of us is that the Channel Nine feed comes out of Sydney instead of Melbourne where the latter has more in common with SA.
I hope the new General Manager can fix this so we Spencer Gulf viewers do not have to endure a station that has little in common with us southern folk.
