Avnet Technology Solutions has revealed its new management line up following the $77.5 million acquisition of itX last August.
Laurie Sellers will lead the combined local Avnet team.
The business will consist of two divisions - IT distribution, and Services and Adjacent businesses.
Greg Newham will take on the responsibility for running the traditional distribution side of the business and Gavin Lawless will be in charge of services and adjacent businesses. This involves businesses that itX has acquired in the past including ICO, Briell and Sydmed.
Michael Costigan retains his current position as marketing and business innovation director for Avnet Asia-Pacific.
Sellers said the company will look at the business as two major divisions with the traditional IT distribution business, having the larger share. “We’re going to combine the itX and Avnet team into one Avnet team,” Sellers said.
The main focus of Newham’s team will be to maintain and grow the relationship with existing suppliers and resellers.
“He’ll also be looking to take on additional product lines, but the key to his business will be operational excellence in distribution,” Sellers said.
Lawless will have the opportunity for further profitable growth as well as accelerating the growth of the previously acquired businesses.
“He will also be looking at expanding those businesses into new markets and geographies. Particularly with the case of Brielle and Sydmed, they operate along the eastern seaboard and there is opportunity to expand those businesses nationwide as well as increase the number of products they have and the markets they can address, ” Sellers said.
The acquisition also gave the opportunity for Avnet and itX to double their national presence.
Sellers indicated prior to the acquisition, it only had two people in Adelaide and three in Perth, and Avnet was in similar situation.
“If you bring two small offices together to create a larger one, you’ll create a lot more momentum and boost morale,” he said. “We see the potential to grow the business outside of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.”
“We already dominate the market in most of the products that we distribute and our strategy with distribution is to be the preferred distributor for the products that we choose to distribute. We won’t necessarily aim to be the biggest one, we definitely won’t be the cheapest one, but we aim to be the preferred and the best one in the market."
