CSC renews $107m Immigration deal

The deal extends its current contract arrangement for a further two years

Integrator, CSC, has renewed its contract with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to the tune of $107 million.

The deal further extends its current contract arrangement for a further two years.

CSC has been the incumbent provider for mainframe, midrange and storage services since 1998 – its contract was due to expire on June 30, 2011.

CSC general manager of Federal Government business, Andrew Lockley, said the reason DIAC extend its contract was to maintain stability.

“We’ve got the opportunity and global capacity to be able to take a lot of the things that we do in developing technology and applying it to help meet their business needs,” Lockley said. “DIAC was looking for a slight evolution in the technology that was not only allowing them to keep up with technology but also get the cost benefits from it.

“Things change, so we’ve got to make sure we work closely with them and evolve those environments in an orderly fashion.”

Lockley explained DIAC maintained a highly complex, virtual environment.

“They’re currently sitting at 65 per cent of virtualised environment and they’re heading into the high 80’s as a result of the work that we’ll be doing in renewing their environment,” Lockley said. “It has Intel type servers, standard Unix, Sun and IBM technologies. We’re evolving those technologies as a result of the changes to this contract; it’s been a good four years since those environments were changed.

“We’re taking them to the next stage in a lot of those technologies.”

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
