Antec issues 'illegal imports' warning to resellers

Components and gaming accessories vendor, Antec, has issued a warning to Australian and New Zealand resellers about sourcing imported products that it deems to be 'illegal.'
Antec A/NZ marketing and sales manager, Irina Tsikun, said it deems a product as being illegally imported if it is not accessed through its authorised Australian distributor, Altech Computers. She also referred to it as being illegal because it is not supported by its warranty terms and conditions and certain products are not certified to be used in the Australian market.
The vendor stated any products that have been brought in through 'illegal channels' don’t feature the official Antec identification number and aren’t covered by its official warranty.
"Products imported and distributed through other sources are illegal," the statement said.
Tsikun said it had known for several months that Antec products have been imported 'illegally' through another Australian distributor.
"Sometimes we see our products on their website," she said. "They're not an authorised distributor. We want to confirm these products are considered to be illegal if they're not distributed through our legal distribution partner in Australia.
"Our strategy is to make everyone know that uncontrolled products imported to the country are not supported under warranty and we have a specific code for Australian products."
Tsikun said it had not yet contacted the distributor in question about the matter.
"We want to protect our channel and our business in Australia because the feedback from resellers is tough to hear and more people have been complaining about it," she said.
Genuine Antec products should only be sourced through its official distributor, Altech Computers.

Altech and Antec should really consult their legal counsel before throwing words around such as "illegal" and "not certified" to be use in Australia, they are claiming their own products does not meet our local standards, rules and regulations for emission. I think the regulatory bodies should audit Altech and Antec products first (^_^)

It's just good business.
Altech can cry & make all the noise they want, consumers want cheap and lower prices.
Sue/blame the factory / original supplier, not the Australian importer.
Deal with the cause, not the effects.

There is no illegal parallel import rule in Australia as long as the product is genuinely produce in Antec Factory.
Customer should get the best deal and keep the distributors honest.

I never heard Microsoft sue any parallel importer in Australia for genuine software.

Hey you guys stop it! Altech have been providing excellent service in the past and we should stick to legit disty than buying from CowBoys who jumping on band wagaons

In reply to Hammer Altech provide reasonable customer service but excellent is a big claim and the distributor in question bringing in the supposed illegal imported stuff is a much bigger distributor and hardly cowboys. This is a stupid situation where ANTEC seem to be charging a premium for there product in Australia and someone has seen an opportunity to under cut them by bringing it in from overseas. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come so Australian customers and resellers stop getting ripped off. If Antec had any real claims about anything illegal going on they would aproach the multinational distributor in question directly.

Altech???

Everyone needs to note that Altech made no such statement. All statements were made by Irina Tsikun an Antec employee!
Altech, so??

Doesn't matter if Altech made this statement or not, no one would believe Antec didn't consult with Altech before posted to ARN...

it is only Antec who is decision maker about their channel, and the same ARN about their policy. Antec and Altech will continue their sucessful cooperation for at least another 15 years, no matter what is said here.

Smoke and mirrors by Antec.
A bit of speculation here, but I don't think it was a coincidence that around the time Synnex Australia started selling Antec cases, the Antec head honchos were visiting Australia. And it's not a coincidence that Synnex USA have the distrubtion rights for Antec in North America (there's your supply chain). Then there's the rumblings I've heard that Antec weren't happy with the volume of sales Altech was doing with it's product.
Why haven't Antec spoken to the "distributor in question" about this matter? Antec is either shopping their product around unoficially, with Synnex being the logical choice due to the link with the USA, or they are turning a blind eye hoping it will give Altech the kick up the pants to push more Antec products.
Either way, this "warning" is just to make it look like they are doing something about it.

Synnex does a lot of creative bundles revolving Antec, from Oceanic 467, MCG, 4 x MC (motherboard CPU bundle) etc..in the component space since they started to carry them. They did spike the sales of Antec cases and created more awareness, the only problem is the confusion in pricing Antec cases sometimes 110 sometimes 128, thus resellers and even themselves are confused with the actual price.

everyone hear me now or I will slap your hands 4 times. In my opinion Australia doesn't have law to stop trader / resellers / distributors in combining container shipment into this country. which means there is no such thing as grey import, only parallel import. The reason call it parallel because they don't come alone, they always come together they come from same factory located near D&G. Which never short of supply always guarrantee stock come very fast.
