Distribution Central launches iUnity

Distribution Central has introduced four vendors, Polycom, Telstrom, Zeacom and Plantronics, to its portfolio as part of its new iUnity initiative.

It has also extended its Avaya agreement to include Avaya data products, which derived from the vendor’s acquisition of Nortel in December last year.

Zeacom supply contact centre and unified communications while Telstrom provides routing, data and voice solutions.

Distribution Central marketing director, Nick Verykios, explained iUnity was an operation of its Unity Systems business unit that supplies voice and data bundling options for resellers.

“iUnity supplies a solution across multiple products that have been tested in our labs, applications with some of our resellers and end users to make sure the integration works. We’ve tested this before we’ve opened our big mouths to tell everyone,” Verykios said. “We’re putting together bundles that make sense because voice resellers aren’t data experts. They need to be told what products to sell to enhance the voice infrastructure.”

iUnity is backed by five engineers, which Verykios claims are some of the highest calibre of Avaya talent in the market along with personnel that specialise in the other associated vendors. All up, it has about 20 staff manning the Unity Systems unit.

Verykios said the four vendors were the first batch of many that it will launch under iUnity.

“There are a series of technologies available that need to be integrated into a basic telephony system to make it worth your while,” he said. “You add efficiencies around it.”

The distributor has also launched an online configuration tool, which is designed to assist resellers in providing voice and data solutions. Verykios said it would make it much easier for resellers to buy and configure Avaya data products.

Unity Systems national sales manager, Steve Jones, said the initiative was primarily driven by resellers.

“We can just bundle it into one configurator and put it one quote, making it easier for resellers to order. The importance is the channel and understanding what they need and what products to sell,” Jones said. “We’re fattening out the Avaya portfolio of DevConnect partners. It’s a complete solution of unified communications with the applications.”
