Polycom to set up Melbourne solutions centre

Telepresence and communications vendor, Polycom, plans to set up an innovative technology solutions centre in Melbourne.

The move will create 20 new jobs in the next two years.

Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Trade Jaala Pulford welcomed the new investment in the state and said that Victoria was ideal for Polycom’s continued expansion in Australia.

“Through establishing an innovative Technology Solutions Centre in Melbourne, Polycom is strengthening its position in the Asia Pacific region and positioning itself as a leader in regional elearning and ehealth telepresence initiatives for a high speed NBN environment,” Pulford said.

“The advent of a high speed broadband network in Australia will enable more essential services to be delivered and allow local businesses to participate more effectively in the global economy.”

Pulford said there is strong potential for the future of telepresence technology for regional education and health through the NBN.

Polycom CEO and president, Andrew Miller, said the NBN would provide huge opportunities to deliver telepresence solutions in a high speed broadband environment.

“Opening the new technology solutions centre is an important step for Polycom, with improved networks and widespread availability of bandwidth, better accessibility of telepresence solutions across all industries,” Miller said.

“We see Melbourne as a logical choice for us to expand our operations in Australia and New Zealand.”
