If a telemarketer offers to list your phone number on the Do Not Call Register for a fee, you’re being scammed.
According to ACMA, there has been over 30 complaints from consumers around this latest scam in the past month.
In a release, ACMA chairman, Chris Chapman, said consumers should not provide any personal identification or financial details to telemarketers making these calls.
"The Do Not Call Register is a free service provided by the Australian Government," he said.
"If you receive a call from someone offering to list your number on the Do Not Call Register for a fee, we recommend you get as much information as possible from the caller and lodge a complaint with us by calling 1300 792 958 or by logging on to www.donotcall.gov.au."
Free registrations to the Do Not Call Register last for five years.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
