A global technology and business services company will establish its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Melbourne's southeast, creating 400 new jobs.
Vertex's decision to establish its head office in East Bentleigh follows the announcement of 600 jobs at the company's Ballarat office in June.
Premier John Brumby said the creation of new jobs at the company shows the state's potential growth in the information and communication technology sector, particularly if the Gillard government's national broadband network (NBN) goes ahead.
"The roll-out of the broadband network is crucial," he said.
"We don't know the outcome yet of the Federal election but what we do know is that national broadband will drive tens and tens of thousands of new jobs in our state."
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
