Dell Streak likely to hit Asia in early 2011

Dell also plans wider Asian availability of the Aero smartphone by the end of the year

Dell is likely to bring its Streak tablet to Asia-Pacific markets early next year, a company executive said Friday.

"We have not yet announced the expansion plans for Streak in Asia. I suspect the early part of next year we'll see that product," said Steve Felice, president of Dell's small and medium business unit, during a conference call with reporters.

The Streak, which is already on sale in the U.S. and Europe, sports a 5-inch touchscreen display, runs Google's Android OS, and packs a 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor under its hood. The tablet has two cameras, including a front-facing VGA camera, and can connect to Wi-Fi and 3G networks. The 3G capability allows the Streak to be used as a phone, albeit one that's larger than most other handsets.

Dell is selling the Streak in the U.S. for US$300 with a two-year service contract from AT&T. The tablet sells for $550 without a contract.

Asian users will see Dell's Aero handset hit more local markets before the Streak arrives.

"On the phone side, the Aero side -- the smartphone we have -- most of Asia will see distribution, right now it's anticipated by the end of the year." Felice said.

The Aero, which also runs Android, is already available in China as the Mini 3i.
