Former Opposition leader and Federal member of Wentworth, Malcolm Turnbull, is hosting an Internet filtering forum.
Panel members will include former Telstra BigPond group manager, Justin Milne, Getup! national director, Simon Sheikh, and Turnbull himself.
“The proposed filter is a hot issue in Wentworth, with many voters expressing concerns over the Government’s plans,” the Facebook events page said. “… Informed discussion among forum participants will ensure community views on the filter are heard.
The forum will consider adopting community resolutions to capture the views. The even will be held on August 7 at Paddington RSL Club from 3.15pm to 5.15pm.
“If adopted, these resolutions will be presented to Senator Steven Conroy and Prime Minister Gillard as a reminder of the community’s determination to fight the proposal,” the events page said.
Turnbull was dumped by as Liberal Leader in December 2009. He was replaced by Tony Abbott.

Time, where in Paddington RSL... the events page?
Cheers.

Malcolm and I finally agree on something. However a set of community resolutions from a safe liberal seat will probably not have much of an effect on Gillard and Conroy.
Malcolm would be better off presenting these resolutions to his own party as evidence that small target politics is not really working and that their all over the map leader may actually have to have some concrete policies going into a general election.

It is my understanding that the Liberal party are yet to take a position on the filter.
Good to hear Turnbull is doing this, but I wonder if he could be in conflict with the right faction of a future coalition government.

Dan, it has been said numerous times that the Coalition does not support the mandatory ISP filter.

Troy who are you kidding. Abbott has made it clear that he supports the goals of the filter. His attempts to 'whisper' to filter opponents by saying he is not sure of the precise exact methods the government has proposed have not convinced anyone.
He wishes to go as far as the filter policy and further.
At the moment the best chance for us filter opponents seems to be Kate Lundy and Malcolm Turnbull. There is no vote we can cast in the Federal election which will help. A vote for Greens (who have the only explicit policy of opposing the filter through the senate) would of course be a nice symbol. However the Coalition and Labour will happily hold hands and skip this one through the Senate anyway.
Coalition policy on this, while not in printed format, couldn't be clearer. Only god knows where you're getting this stuff.

The Libs have never had an ISP filter policy. The reason they don't oppose it directly (except Turnbull), is that Conroy will grab news headlines claiming that the Libs support "kiddie pedos".
A vote for the Greens - is a preference vote for Labor, thus a House/Senate vote for the filter under Labor (if returned to government).
As for the Greens claiming to oppose the filter. Why did they previously preselect Clive Hamilton? Why does Bob Brown speak of amendments to a filter bill - rather than just refuse to vote "yes" on any such bill?
Pfft

Only if you follow the Greens ballot example sheet, otherwise it seems like the way to go. Both sides are the devil.

Comrade, surely you are aware that a vote for the greens is not a preference vote for labor IF you actually take a few minutes vote BELOW the line. I admit that ive never voted below the line before out of laziness but im really looking forward to putting the labor candidates stone cold last in MY preferences. Frank will vote greens and give his preferences the way frank wants :)

"Why does Bob Brown speak of amendments to a filter bill - rather than just refuse to vote "yes" on any such bill?"
Perhaps because Bob Brown wants to amend the bill to make it voluntary or opt in/out. The protocol of the senate is generally to have bills amended without totally blocking policies of an elected governments.

I feel like starting an "I love Turnbull" fanclub after this!
Both he and Joe Hockey are vocal opponents to it, several other libs are opposed to it, if the 'official' party stance comes out as anything but against, well we will then know that neither party is run by it's sitting members.

@Troy,
Coalition did not say no to the Filter, what they did say is they will look at it.
I wish people look up the facts about the Coalition, rather than just posting to attack the Labor Party.
On a number of occasions (posted multiple locations, including earlier this year):
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/abbott-sits-on-filtering-fence/story-e6frgakx-1225850915084
"I want to see protections in place. I don't want to see our kids exposed to really terrible stuff on the internet. On the other hand I don't want to see the internet destroyed by a filtering system that won't work so I guess for me it's a factual issue," he said on ABC TV's Q&A program this week."
""Can you have a filtering system that is effective, that doesn't lull parents into a false sense of security and which doesn't in the process make the internet ineffective as the kind of marvellous research tool and educational device that it is?"
Attacking Labor, and leaving the Coalition undectected is just plain silly.

Just called Turnbull's office for details.
Saturday, August 7 (this Saturnday) @ 3:15pm - 5:15pm at Paddington RSL club in the upstairs room. The club is opposite the Paddington Hall.
It isn't a closed event or anything, so turn up and make yourself heard on this issue.

I think a lot of people forget that it's the Liberal party who got the ball rolling on internet censorship in the first place, by banning even R-rated content from Australian servers ten years ago. (And yes - this system is still in place today.) They also created the ACMA blacklist which, though different in scope, formed the basis for the filtering proposal.
They didn't implement a mandatory filter for overseas content at that time because it was not technically feasible. That doesn't mean they didn't think it was a good idea. Now that Labor has tried their hand, a Coalition government would probably be willing to go further.
The Greens are the only significant party (if you can even call them significant..) that seriously oppose the filter. Even then, balance of power in the Senate - if they get it - is only occasionally used to outright reject policy, and (as others have noted) would more likely put them in a position to force the government to compromise and water down the filter to be somewhat more palatable.

I don't suppose Malcolm will take the opportunity to test the water on the NBN, eHealth or computers in schools? Tony does not favour public transport either saying Australians "prefer" their own cars.

Those twits who reckon a vote for the Greens is a vote for Labor are dreaming, particularly if they're talking about the Senate. You can check out your own State, but in Victoria, if you vote Green above the line, it will take a while for your vote to get to Labor as they are numbered 22-26. Even more special is that, while Conroy is number 2 on the ALP ticket, the Greens have demoted him to last, so he gets 26.
The AEC have hidden the detail but if you want to check it ou go to http://www.aec.gov.au/election/vic/gvt.htm#d
Go Greens

Free Wii - How It Works. This is essentially a new and unique method of marketing. It is a simple referral scheme and encourages people like you and me to view different companys offers in exchange for a free nintendo games console. However, the best part of this is that taking part in the offers doesn’t cost you a penny! There are a variety of free trials available.
When you take part in a free trial of a companys services, you become a ‘potential customer’ to that company. They place a high value on people trying/viewing their products and services, and on average roughly 1 in 100 people that sign up for the companys free trials, will become a full customer you complete a free trial offer for a company the company pays a set fee to the reward site everytime somebody signs up you want to get a wii free which normally costs £180.00 you get 8 referrals or friends to sign up for the free offer via the reward site company pays the reward site a set amount as you have got 8 friends to sign up reward site orders you a free nintendo wii remaining money becomes reward sites profit What all this means is- the reward site are very happy because they have made a profit the company is happy because of the potential new custom most importantly, your happy because you have a free wii
