The National Broadband Network (NBN) Tasmania Network Operations Centre (NOC) will start working on June 1.
According to a statement from NBN Co, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, will officially cut the ribbon for the centre at 11am.
“[The NOC’s] role is to manage network traffic, take service orders, coordinate service installations and network maintenance,” it said.
The centre will be located at the Hills Building on 11-17 Pearl St, Derwent Park in North Hobart.
The NBN rollout in Tasmania recently stepped up a notch with Phase one ISPs getting cut-price fibre connection fees to encourage lower retail prices.
But the NBN’s rollout in the Apple state hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing. One construction worker was electrically shocked when he touched a power pole with a leaking insulator and the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union has called for urgent changes to prevent further deaths or injuries.
