Canadian hard drive vendor makes Aussie distributor push

Clickfree is on the hunt for up to four distributors nationally and resellers and is offering double digit margins on products

Canada-based storage company, Clickfree, is set to launch in Australia and is in detailed discussions with distributors, resellers and retailers.

The company offers a range of products which simplify the backup experience for end users and SMBs by automatically searching for and storing a computer’s files on the hard drive. Pricing ranges from $US100 to just under $US300 for a 2TB drive.

It backs-up data as soon as the portable hard drive is connected to any Mac or PC by USB 2.0 port or via wireless connectivity and does not require extra software to be installed.

Clickfree’s CEO, Bryan McLeod, said the price point was 20 per cent more expensive than rival storage devices with a similar data capacity. But he claimed customers were willing to pay the extra cost for a simple solution that made backing up data easy.

“To get people to backup, it has to be totally automatic and get rid of all the fear,” he said. “This searches for - and captures - all the important data and restores it in the same file structure across any platform.”

Asia-Pacific vice-president and former Logitech Australia boss, Marco Manera, said the vendor was looking for up to four distributors.

“We’ll be visiting all the disties, major retail accounts and channel players in the next couple of weeks in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane,” he said. “We want to sign deals over June and get products into Australian and New Zealand by July.

“There aren’t that many distributors out there anymore, Times have been tough especially in the last few years.”

He said a key benefit Clickfree offered to resellers and retailers was its high-end point-of-sale (POS) video kiosks that will be provided free of charge to almost any store that wanted one and offered sufficient sales volumes. But McLeod said vendor advertising and road shows were not on the cards for the near future.

Manera added the hard drive based products would offer resellers and retailers a minimum margin of 10 per cent.

Hard drive adapter products, which allow rival-branded hard drives operate under Clickfree’s backup software, offered 35 per cent profit margin.

“The important thing is this kind of product needs to be explained,” he said. “We’re not going to sell on price point because our solution is not the cheapest on the market.”

Sounds like a good prroduct and i wish you all the best.

Only thing i have to say is good luck in trying to keep the prices up, everyone is killing each other trying to get sales and volumn on the market at the moment.
