It's rare these days that you can attend a conference or technology showcase and not have vendors thrusting pamphlets in your face on their latest gear.

It's even rarer that you see the latest technology from multiple vendors all interoperating together the way they would in a real-life business situation and not have a single vendor rep in sight - let alone with other punters looking on in wonder at how their kit works in conjunction with another manufacturer's.

This was the case, however, at Dimension Data's Solutions Showcase held in concert with its annual user conference in Coolum.

The showcase featured over $7 million worth of technology from more than 21 different vendors. It took Dimension Data's engineers 5,000 man-hours to put together and became the focal point for Dimension Data's new Applications Network strategy.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
