Capgemini adding 4,000 staff in India

The company sees a pickup in demand for its services

French IT services company Capgemini plans to add 4,000 more staff in India during the current quarter, seeing an improvement in business, the company said on Friday.

The company already added 2,500 workers in India in the first quarter, taking total staff in the country to 23,353 people.

Capgemini had 91,792 staff worldwide at the end of the first quarter.

India is central to the company's "rightshore" delivery model, which gives customers the option of multiple delivery locations, including offshore delivery, said Cyprian D'Souza, head of people resource management at Capgemini India.

India is currently the largest services delivery location for the company worldwide and is set to grow, he added.

Besides using India as a base for services delivery to customers around the world, Capgemini is also targeting the growing Indian market for IT services.

About 3,000 of its Indian staff are offering business process outsourcing services, the company said.

As business picks up, a number of Indian outsourcers have already stepped up their hiring, and have announced plans to increase their hiring this quarter as well. Some analysts are forecasting a return to the high staff salaries and attrition that prevailed in the Indian IT services sector before the recession.

Capgemini reported earlier this month revenue of €2,052 million (US$2.76 billion) for the first quarter of this year, which was slightly higher than revenue in the previous quarter, but 6.9 percent lower than in the first quarter of last year.
