Telecommunications industry body, Communications Alliance, has hired John Stanton as CEO.
Anne Hurley resigned as CEO last year after a six-year tenure
An 18-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, Stanton's last role was CEO at People Telecom for three years. The telco was sold off to M2 Communications for $19 million in 2009.
Stanton held a number of roles at Telstra between 1992 and 1999 and was a journalist as well as a press secretary with the Australian Government.
“John has a deep understanding of the Australian and global communications environment and we believe the wide range of experience he will bring to the role will be a great asset to our organisation,” Communications Alliance chairman, Michael Lee, said in a statement.
Stanton starts in April.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
