Synergy hires Kafer to head up services

After several months of searching, ASX-listed integrator, Synergy Plus, has appointed Tony Kafer as its national services director.

Kafer most recently set-up the professional services unit for rival services player, Datacom. Prior to that, he had a one-year stint as CIO for the Department of Natural Resources. He also boasts 10 years’ experience in ICT as director of consulting group, Positive Consulting.

Synergy’s newly installed CEO, Garry Henley, said Kafer’s industry experience and project services knowledge was key to driving growth across its professional and managed services businesses nationally. The appointment also demonstrated Synergy’s commitment to being a services-led player, he claimed. At least 50 per cent of the company’s employee base is services-oriented.

“This role is a key part of our transformation to a national perspective, rather than state-based,” he told ARN. “Tony will focus on our services and managed services staff and our processes and procedures, plus our education helpdesk in Queensland and our national helpdesk in head office.”

Henley said Kafer’s strategic viewpoint would also be instrumental in integrating future acquisitions into Synergy’s business and culture.

“We have good operations managers – I wanted someone who was not only hands-on, but who also had a good understanding of strategy and driving business as a whole,” he said.

Kafer will be based in Sydney and report directly to Henley. He sits alongside national sales manager, Joe Arcuri, who was appointed in October. For his part, Kafer was excited to join Synergy at this stage of its evolution.

“The growth and focus demonstrated through its financial turnaround, as well as its growth through acquisition, clearly demonstrates that Synergy Plus’ strategic positioning within the services market is, and will continue to, pay off,” he said in an ASX statement.

Synergy has also been looking for a managed services sales manager to replace Roy Pater, who quit the company in November.

Henley said he was now investigating whether these responsibilities could be assumed by its business development management team.
