Chen to quit Asus

Sources close to the company claim the managing director will officially announce his resignation shortly

Asus country manager and director, Ted Chen, is quitting after nearly six years in the role.

Sources close to the company claim Chen, along with his wife and Asus marketing manager, Carmen Li, will announce their departure from the vendor shortly. When contacted by ARN, Chen declined to comment on the reasons for his resignation and referred questions back to the corporate communications team.

Chen was appointed Asus’ inaugural Australian managing director in April 2004 after spending five years in various roles overseas. His first assignment for the vendor was to establish sales channels in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, followed by distribution partnerships for its optical drives, graphics cards and motherboards.

During his tenure in Australia, Chen has overseen the launch of Asus-branded notebooks in the market, as well as its breakthrough low-cost netbook machine, the Eee PC, in July 2008.

More recently, Asus appointed Altech in January to distribute its full range of PC components products.

There are no details at this stage on Chen’s replacement or his next move.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
