The Apple iPad has received a late-April Australian release date, scuttling market rumours it would be available by March 26. It will be available in the US from April 3.
The local release will include both 3G and Wi-Fi models, but a spokesperson for Apple said prices and other release details would not be available until closer to the final launch date.
Apple’s announcement continues to leave resellers with few firm details about the product, which many believe will become the a major drive for the tablet computing industry.
The statement by Apple also failed to include details on the iBook store, which allows texts and books to be bought and read on the iPad.
Moves by Apple to introduce the electronic book store domestically have hit major snags as local publishers negotiate with the tech giant.
Competitors have already moved to take on Apple’s iPad before the unit hit local shores. Tegatech has started its own brand of tablet PCs using Windows 7 products.
Sony has also unveiled its tablet-like device, which includes many features shared by its Apple cousin including e-book reading and gaming functions.
