Tegatech gears up for ‘Year of the tablet’

UMPC distributor revamps website and hunts for more resellers to prepare itself for a tablet PC explosion.

Tegatech is banking on riding the tablet PC wave, overhauling its website as part of a reseller recruitment drive in anticipation of big business this year.

The ultramobile PC (UMPC) distributor’s website has been given an extreme makeover with a big push for Web 2.0 features. The site now links in with Twitter, Facebook and carries an RSS feed to provide real-time news and product pricing updates. It also has one-page check out process with options to simplify the shopping experience for resellers and will hopefully attract more partners, according to Tegatech Principal, Hugo Ortega.

“The infrastructure is growing now so we can accept more resellers and that was part of the goal for the revamp,” he said. “One of the biggest challenges we had in the past was being able to service and accept support requests via the Internet since it was quite a manual process.

“The new website allows us to accept service requests and track them online.”

Tablet PC is at the forefront of Tegatech’s 2010 strategy and it is gearing up to release its very own brand of tablets by the end of March.

The product line mainly runs on Windows 7 and the distributor plans to use it to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPad.

Ortega is on the hunt for a further 300 resellers to join its 500 strong partner base this year in the biggest recruitment effort since the company’s first launched.

“This year has been dubbed ‘Year of the tablet’ and we believe in that too,” he said. “With the release of Apple’s tablet and Windows 7 touch features, it is in front of people’s minds.”
