Nero SecurDisc: Improved security for optical storage media

Nero says the improved data-protection technology should increase the chances of recovering content from damaged discs

Nero, makers of optical media-burning software, has announced a new version of its SecurDisc data- protection technology, which should increase your chances of recovering content from damaged CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.

Due in April, SecurDisc 2.0 also promises improved data security through password protection and authentication through use of digital signatures. Nero announced its SecurDisc update plans this week at the CeBIT technology trade show in Hannover, Germany.

SecurDisc is integrated in Nero 9; the new version will appear in future Nero products. The technology provides protection against disc deterioration through redundancy and defect management.

No special hardware is required to use SecurDisc 2.0's new features. The technology embeds into the media a viewer app that runs automatically when a disc is played, and decrypts the disc's contents once the user enters the correct password.
