Melbourne IT appoints new CFO

Former CFO at Lonely Planet, Carolyn Sutton, takes on the job as company prepares for a flat 2010

ASX-listed services provider, Melbourne IT (ASX:MLB), has appointed Carolyn Sutton as its new chief financial officer.

Sutton joins the IT services provider after eight years at travel guide maker, Lonely Planet, where she also held the position of CFO.

Sutton helped the print publisher’s transition to a multimedia content provider after it was bought by BBC WorldWide.

According to a statement released by the company, Sutton previously worked at Palmer Corporation, Lincraft and Tanner Menzies. She also holds a BA of Commerce and is a member of the Australian Society of CPAs.

The CFO takes on the job as Melbourne IT prepares for a lacklustre 2010 and a strong 2011. Its recently posted a full year revenue rise from $186.2 million in 2008 to $200.1m in 2009 despite the difficult economy.

According to its CEO, Theo Hnarakis, the change of focus from domain registration to digital brand management services (DBMS), following the completion of its acquisition of VeriSigns DBMS division will result in a relatively flat 2010 due to capital expenditure and other investments.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
