Sky app brings live football to Nokia phones

App also lets users watch on-demand football highlights

Nokia and Sky have joined forces to launch an app that allows mobile phone users to watch live Premiership football matches on a number of Nokia handsets.

The app, which can be downloaded for free from Nokia's Ovi Store, also allows users to watch on-demand goals and highlights from Premiership matches, as well as program a Sky+ box from their handset and even keep up-to-date with sports headlines from Sky News.

The app is compatible with the Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5530.

A version for the Nokia 5230 and the X6 is expected to be launched shortly. Nokia also said it was planning a version of the app that doesn't include live broadcasts for a further 10 handsets.

Rupert Englander from Nokia said: "Modern lifestyles have driven demand for great mobile content and services on-the-go, and it's great to know that this app will make a real difference to Nokia users."David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at Sky, added: "We're delighted to be working with Nokia to give millions more people the chance to enjoy TV on the move. The success of Sky Mobile TV has shown there's a real appetite for innovative services that allow customers to choose when and where they watch".

The app comes just days after the BBC revealed it was working on Apple iPhone apps that will allow mobile phone owners to watch live World Cup matches on their handset.
