Alphawest goes platinum with Avaya

Optus subsidiary continues to build out its core unified communications business

Unified communications integrator, Alphawest, has become an Avaya platinum partner.

The Optus subsidiary will now offer solutions using technologies from both Avaya and Nortel, which Avaya acquired last year.

Alphawest general manager of marketing, Liam Fraser, said the partnership built on Alphawest’s existing unified communications platform. This already includes significant partnerships with vendors such as Cisco – which awarded Alphawest a number of global and local awards throughout 2009.

“We focus on making sure we can provide choice to our customers,” Fraser said.

Alphawest’s parent, Optus, has an existing relationship with Avaya, so the partnership allows Alphawest to build that capabilities into its own solutions, he said.

In a release, Avaya managing director, ANZ, Rob Wells, said the vendor was excited by the prospects Alphawest brought the business.

“This relationship is a key element in delivering a successful ‘channel-centric’ approach to doing business in Australia,” Wells said in the release.

Alphawest and Optus have also been making inroads in cloud computing, signing Curtin University as the service’s first customer earlier this month.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
