Printer consumables player hits Australia

Printer consumables remanufacturer, Clover, has set up shop in Australia.
Based in the US, the company was founded in 1996 and specialises in environmentally conscious remanufacturing and recycling of imaging supplies for private labels. Clover also has an in-house product line, Dataproducts, and an original equipment manufacturing business for a variety of global vendors.
Twelve months ago the company decided to expand its presence in Asia-Pacific. Melbourne was selected as the location for an Australian headquarter. Former ATC IT Supplies staffer, Peter Costa, was recruited to head up the local operation. “We had sales offices in Singapore but we decided to open a distribution point in Melbourne for our Australian and New Zealand business,” Costa, said. “The strategy is to target private label opportunities and particularly larger resellers that are looking at a closed-loop and integrated solution which include products, private label products, local warehousing and technical support.”
Costa said high-end resellers had been neglected by the printer consumables remanufacturing industry. This was where Clover would concentrate its effort.
With 20 staff still adjusting to their new Melbourne operation, a channel program has yet to be put in place.
“At the moment, our involvement is direct to individual distributors that are sourcing their own private branded products,” Costa said. “But once we have bedded down the business here, we will be looking for channel partners for distribution of our core branded products across a broader segment of the community.
“We are geared up for producing, packaging and moving volumes so we don’t want to target small distributors.”
Clover will look for four channel partners and expects to generate $12m in revenue in the next year. It runs one of the largest cartridge collection and recycling programs in the world and has operations in North America, Portugal, Mexico and Vietnam.
