Acer has appointed new distribution start-up, Vadis Systems, to supply its range of server and storage products to the channel.
Acer channel sales general manager, Greg Mikaelian, said Vadis was brought on to drive its expanding server and storage portfolio into SMB and mid-market dealers. The distributor has access to Acer’s existing range, but will focus mainly on the refreshed server line-up, due for release in Q2 and aimed at the datacentre and corporate markets.
“We are aiming to work with Vadis for our enterprise solutions group of products,” Mikaelian said. “This reinforces our push into the storage area, through our association with HDS. We haven’t previously had the right vehicle to push into that mid-tier and SMB. Vadis was a good fit.
“We also have a raft of new servers coming out, so this coincides.”
Mikaelian dismissed any concern over the start-up’s unproven track record. Vadis launched in Australia in November last year and is backed by Gerry Tucker and Sepp Stepanian.
“They may be the new kid on the block, but there’s old heads running the show,” Mikaelian said. “The industry changes, and you’ve got to start tackling new horses. The discussions came about and we saw good synergies with what we wanted to do.”
Vadis co-founder and sales and marketing director, Gerry Tucker, said the deal validated its end-to-end distribution approach. It plans to launch a new of solution bundles in coming weeks aimed at addressing cloud and security trends and featuring a combination of vendor products.
“We’re very pleased Acer has come on-board – it was a strategic move for us,” he said. “Our strategy has been to bring on a combination of newer vendors with established ones.
“What we want to do with Acer is add value – they have a very well established brand presence, but there’s still an opportunity for us to add value to them and the resellers.”
Tucker also stressed its focus on providing solutions around cloud computing and pointed out hardware was an important piece of the equation.
“Even with cloud, there are still hardware needs in the local environment and devices required to access the cloud. What we’re trying to do is provide a more complete offering and help our partners get more revenue from their customers,” he said.
The new appointment will not impact Acer’s existing distribution line-up, which includes Synnex, Ingram Micro, Bluechip Infotech and regional players, CompuWholesale and XiT Distribution.
