OptiComm has entered into a letter of intent with NBN Tasmania to provide wholesale equipment and services to part of the state’s fibre-to-the-premise network.
Under the arrangement, OptiComm will supply and manage the active components of the network providing the communities of Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point.
Earlier this month, Corning Cable Systems won a contract to supply fibre optic cable to those communities. The installation is expected to be complete by mid-2010.
In a release, NBN Tasmania executive chairman, Doug Campbell, said OptiComm’s experiencing in delivering and managing fibre-to-the-premises wholesale products in greenfield estates in Australia ensured it could deliver high-speed broadband to the communities.
Opticomm has also been contracted for similar services in partnership with NEC to Victoria’s University Hill in August and earlier, to Fernbrooke estate in Queensland in February in partnership with Internode.
