MSI appoints new distributor to replace TodayTech

IT vendor, MSI, has signed on Achieva as a new national distributor.
According to Achieva marketing manager, Kevin Qi, the vendor first approached the company three months ago because of its strength in computer components.
“Earlier this year, TodayTech had problems with its financial situation and now it’s out of the distribution business so MSI had to choose another distributor,” he said. “Achieva is very strong in PC components, graphics cards and motherboards.”
TodayTech Group was officially liquidated earlier this week after last-minute efforts to draw up a deed of company arrangement failed.
Qi said the distributor would focus on its strengths and not carry the vendor’s notebook line, but may consider doing so in the future. While the deal between the two companies is non-exclusive, he claimed Achieva would not suffer from excess competition.
“Ingram Micro was the earliest distributor for MSI, followed by TodayTech,” he said. “Ingram Micro is the biggest distributor in Australia and focuses more on large business. We focus on medium and small businesses like computer shops and online retailers and we have different types of resellers.”
Achieve will still have the burden of minimum sales requirements however, starting from 2010 onwards.
“Next year we will have some specific details for the targets because we start selling MSI from then,” Qi said.
Both companies will work together on marketing measures and plan to provide most product information online.
