iiNet teams up with TiVo

WA ISP joins the ranks of Internode and iPrimus to offer unmetered TiVo content.

Following in the footsteps of Internode and iPrimus, WA-based ISP, iiNet, has jumped on the unmetered TiVo access bandwagon. It will offer the service through the company’s legal online content delivery portal, Freezone.

In an ironic twist, TiVo’s exclusive licencee, Hybrid Television Services, is owned by Seven Network, one of the applicants suing iiNet over allegedly ‘authorising’ copyright infringement by its subscribers. The case continues.

TiVo joins other unbridled content such as Xbox LIVE downloads on Freezone. iiNet users will be able to access TiVo’s electronic program guide and 250 movie titles that will not count towards their download limit.

“More and more, we are finding our customers want to watch television but also want to enjoy high quality broadband content,” iiNet CEO, Michael Malone, said in a statement. “With an average film being 1.7GB in size, unmetering movies alone provides great value to our customers, particularly those on plans with smaller quotas.”

The ISP has plans to release its own IPTV product in the coming months as a separate offering from its TiVo content.
