Telstra strike cancelled by Union

The Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) has called off all strike actions planned against Telstra for Friday.

According to CEPU divisional secretary, Ed Husic, the strike was called off after Telstra made positive moves towards a negotiated settlement.

“We’re seeking to have the best possible climate in which to continue those talks so we’ve withdrawn tomorrow’s notices,” he said. Husic added there was no defined timeline for when the parties would reach an agreement.

“The parties are committed to trying to keep talking and move closer to an agreement,” he said.

Telstra employees are seeking higher pay rises than the telco is offering, with the union’s president, Len Cooper, reportedly stating it was trying to punish employees seeking negotiation.

“(Telstra) is waging war on its employees by offering only a pathetic pay rise over three years and refusing to allow its employees to have access to arbitration for fair treatment,” the Australian reported
