Fortune Tec has snagged an exclusive partnership with its first gaming-centric vendor, Cougar, to broaden its horizons.
Cougar specialises in mid- to high-end power supplies, PC cases and universal notebook adaptors for the gaming market. While this is not the distributor’s traditional domain, Fortune Tec managing director, Justin Hse, said the company felt the need to branch out and capitalise on the gaming boom.
“People are staying at home and getting more involved with Internet activities so we believe gaming or desktop machines will become increasingly popular,” he said. “The gaming market is a bit saturated but we don’t want to give up the opportunity as we need to diversify.
“The OEM and whitebox market is not doing too good and retail is also down over the past year, which is why we are looking for a broader spectrum of products to make everybody happy.
Cougar is the brother company of Fortune Tec’s long time supplier, HEC, a publicly listed OEM vendor based in Taiwan.
“HEC has done work with well-known brands in the gaming market and it had a lot of skill so the company decided to combine all its experience and knowledge over many years and created Cougar for specialised gaming components.”
Having worked with HEC for 15 years, Fortune Tec was granted exclusive distribution rights in Australia.
While Fortune Tec has about 1000 resellers, most of them are SMB-based and may not be interested in the new addition. The distributor is actively seeking 100 to 150 pure gaming resellers and has already started talks with a number of online retailers.
Fortune Tec is expecting a 10 per cent sales revenue boost from Cougar products within this financial year.
