Audion signs iPod accessories vendor

Distributor expects to meet the 12 month minimum sales requirement set by Ravon Audio within first 60 days

Audion Innovision has signed an exclusive A/NZ distribution agreement with China-based iPod dock vendor, Ravon Audio.

Audion managing director, Boyd Dainton, said the two companies first entered discussions 12 months ago and began local product certification about six months ago.

“It’s probably taken us 12 months to be convinced that the quality versus the cost is justified,” he said. “The audio quality is sensational. It’s right up there with the big brands.

“We lost Altec Lansing some three years ago and we’ve been looking for a replacement for that time. This is probably positioned above Altec Lansing in terms of price.”

Dainton said the distributor’s exclusivity for both Australia and New Zealand over the next two years hinged on meeting a minimum sales requirement of $1 million within the first 12 months. After the initial period, the agreement will be re-negotiated every two years.

“We’ll sell that much in the first 60 days. We’ve got a lot of pre-orders,” he said. “We’re looking at about $3 million [within the first 12 months]. We’re positioning it through specialist AV and specialist Mac stores. Some products will be available only through Next Byte.

“The products won’t be available through the mass-merchants at this point.”
