Fight Back ’09: Home runs in the channel

The good news around the country

It was an exciting week in the channel with vendors and distributors all swinging for the fences and hitting home runs. So grab yourself a hot-dog and take a seat in the stands as Fight Back pitches you the good news.

According to new worldwide figures from Gartner,PC shipments surpassed expectations with 80 million units shipping in the third quarter of 2009. This represented a 0.5 per cent increase from the third quarter of 2008, as opposed to an expected 5.6 per cent decline.

Principal analyst at Garter, Mikako Kitagawa, said the figure was especially encouraging when compared to results from the third quarter from 2008. Taking no chances and bringing out the big guns was ISV, Intelligent Software Development, which became an associate in the Department of Defence’s innovation initiative . The two year-old company became part of the Rapid Prototyping, Development and Evaluation (RPDE) program. Meanwhile, managed security services provider, Seccom, got off the bench and partnered with local ISV, Tier-3. Tier-3 said it will use the new relationship to take advantage of a market it didn’t previously have access to. Tier-3 director of sales, Michael Livingston, said the service would offer organisations desiring a higher level of security a solution based on a usage basis.

Pitching curve balls were Happen Business and PrintSolv, which joined forces this week to deliver automated managed print service solutions. The companies claim the solution, which combines Happen Businesses accounting software with FMAudit products distributed by PrintSolv, will deliver major savings to users.

EMC also enlisted specialist distributor, Alloys, to carry its range of content management and capture products in the Australian market.

Bringing the week home was Fuji Xerox, which announced its new partner rewards scheme called Kansha, a Japanese word for appreciation. Under the program, resellers earn points for selling eligible Fuji Xerox printers, and can redeem rewards including homewares, gift vouchers, experiences, fine dining, electronics and travel. The program replaces a Mastercard program.

That’s it for this week, but remember to bring your cap next time as Fight Back ’09 brings you the good news from the channel this and every week.
