The Communications Alliance has appointed Dr Paul Brooks as new lead consultant on the National Broadband Network (NBN) project.
A founder and director of Layer 10 Advisory, Vocus Group and the Internet Society of Australia, Brooks is recognised as a leading telecommunications analyst. He replaces former NBN lead consultant, Gary McLaren, who will remain involved with the program in his new position as the NBNco’s chief technology officer.
Brooks told ARN his new supervisory role will draw on his years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
“I’ll be leading the overall effort with all the working groups and making sure everyone is synchronised and we are making progress across the project,” he said.
“I’ve worked with a lot of startups in defining the service offerings and network design. It’s a big role – Gary set-up the system very well and I’m looking forward to getting rapidly up to speed and moving things forward.” In a statement, Communications Alliance CEO, Anne Hurley, said the new appointment would take advantage of Dr Brooks’ experience in network creation and would complement its past work.
“Paul is extremely well regarded in the industry and we believe our NBN project teams will benefit greatly from his experience in creating networks from the ground up,” she said.
“The industry has come a long way since it first came together… and much credit is due to Gary McLaren. We congratulate Gary on his appointment and look forward to ongoing collaboration with NBNco as our NBN works program enters a new phase.”
The Communications Alliance aims to promote growth across the Australian communications industry and is leading the industry’s response to the NBN implementation.
